The Top 3 Things You Can do to be Healthy

Did you know that your body is never static? It is always changing, always adapting. In the most basic sense, health and healing revolves around cellular mitosis (old cells die off and new cells replace them). We constantly live our life on a spectrum. On one end is death, and on the other is ideal functional wellness. Every day, every year, every season, we live our lives somewhere in-between the two ends of this spectrum. Between the two ends lie two more general states of being. One is relative health. You are healthy but not living to your full potential. The second is Dis-ease. The state of Dis-ease is when the body is not functioning well, usually not felt by the individual but things in the body are not working as they should and begin to break down or malfunction. If you leave your body in a state of Dis-ease long enough, you will end up growing DISEASE, which is defined as a disorder of structure or function in a living being, especially one that has a known cause and a distinctive GROUP OF SYMPTOMS, SIGNS, OR ANATOMICAL CHANGES.

Knowing our health is always in flux, we want to consistently perform the activities that will move us closer to our ideal functional wellness. The top three things that you can do to heal, get healthy, and stay healthy are very simple. I didn't say they were all easy, but they are simple. Let's look at the top 3 in order from least to greatest (in my opinion but I promise to back it up).

#3. EXERCISE

Exercise is crucial for the body. It keeps the muscles strong and has been shown to reduce heart disease amongst many other health conditions. Weight-bearing exercise is also one of the go-to forms of exercise for people who suffer with Osteoporosis and Osteopenia because the exercises cause stress to the bone and the body responds by laying down more bone (this is Wolf's Law). Physical activity can also improve your metabolic function which will help you burn more calories and stabilize your energy throughout the day. Some of the most powerful chemicals produced by your body are released during exercise, endorphins! Endorphins are one of nature's natural pain relievers as well as mood boosters! But, you can't exercise your way out of a bad diet.

#2. DIET

Your diet is extremely important, what you eat is what you become! When you are eating nothing but artificial foods, artificial sweeteners, genetically modified foods and loads of sugar and carbohydrates that are laced with lectins and Round-Up, you physically can't achieve good health and there is no way you can exercise that out of you! The healthiest people on the planet have great clean diets. They eat to live instead of live to eat. You may see the occasional person who eats junk and "looks" healthy and may even "feel" good, but internally their bodies are sick and they don't feel it yet. It will catch up with them at some point.  If you were to see their blood work you will likely see that their inflammatory markers are elevated indicating the body is attacking itself and fighting a war. Several times a year I teach an advanced workshop on nutrition where I dispel many of the myths prevalent in our current culture around food. More important than the fuel you put in your body (I said it!), is how your body is currently performing in its basic functions.

#1. CHIROPRACTIC CARE

You can put the best fuel in your vehicle, apply the nicest paint job and even add a turbo, but if your engine is not running correctly as it was originally designed, ALL of that is meaningless. "The quality of healing (and therefore the health of your body) is directly proportional to the functional capability of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to send and receive nerve messages." ~Janson Edwards, M.D. Ph.D.Journal of Neurological Science. Many studies have shown that chiropractic care improves reaction time, recovery time and hand-eye-coordination, thus demonstrating improvement in the body's function (it performs at its best). One of my favorite studies demonstrated that the areas of the spine that were out-of-alignment caused nerve irritation which lead to the diseased organs the people died with and from. It was 100% correlated when they accounted for natural variations in the human body! "Sympathetic Segmental Disturbances; The Evidences of the Association, in Dissected Cadavers, of Visceral Disease with Vertebral Deformities of the Same Sympathetic Segments." Medical Times, November 1921, pp. 1-7. Henry Winsor, MD.

The alignment of your spine and the health of the spinal nerves as they exit the spine is the most important factor in your health. If you make chiropractic care your number 1 priority, you are setting yourself up for the best chance at living a healthy life. If you incorporate healthy dietary and exercise routines, you will spend most of your life on the Ideal Functional Wellness side of the spectrum! Breathing Easier: How Upper Cervical Chiropractic Supports Asthma Management

Asthma can be a lifelong challenge, with symptoms that range from mild to life-altering. For many people, it means always keeping an inhaler within reach, avoiding certain environments, and planning life around the possibility of breathing difficulty. Triggers vary—pollen, dust, exercise, stress—but the common thread is that asthma makes it harder to live freely. What if there were a way to support your body’s ability to breathe better—not through medication, but through helping the nervous system function at its best? That’s where upper cervical chiropractic care comes into the conversation. While it's not a cure or a replacement for your asthma medications, this specific form of chiropractic may play a supportive role in helping the respiratory system perform more efficiently. Understanding Asthma Beyond the Lungs Asthma is usually thought of as a lung issue—and rightly so. It’s a condition where the airways narrow and swell, often producing excess mucus, making it difficult to b...
